Free Back to School Math Activities for Middle School
The first week of school can feel exciting, overwhelming, and incredibly busy all at once. Between learning names, establishing routines, and building classroom community, planning engaging math lessons can quickly become one more thing on your to-do list.
That's why I created a FREE Back to School Math Activities Pack for middle school teachers!
This collection of activities is designed to help you kick off the school year with meaningful conversations, mathematical thinking, and plenty of opportunities for middle school students to get to know one another.
What’s Included?
Would You Rather? Math Edition: Get students talking with fun math questions that encourage critical thinking and mathematical discussion. There isn’t always one right answer, making these questions perfect for partners, small group or whole class conversations.
Find Someone Who…Help students meet their classmates with a math themed icebreaker. Students will move around the room asking questions, making connections in math and making new friends.
First Week of Math Warm Ups: Start each math class with a quick activity that will get students in the math mode as soon as they walk in the door. These warm up sheets focus on growth mindset, math reasoning and more.
Math Class Expectations Worksheets: These worksheets invite students to think about and discuss what a successful math classroom looks like. This reflection activity will encourage students to consider respect, responsibility, perseverance and their goals for the year.
